“Buongiorno!” The sun lazily warms the stone facades, and the narrow alleys of historic Scicli are filled with the rich scent of morning coffee. Casa Asmara, tucked in the heart of this charming Sicilian town, will steal your heart from the very first morning. Open the shutters and listen to the city waking up—neighbours exchanging greetings, a scooter slowly starting in the distance, and the air filled with the aroma of basil, ripe tomatoes, and olive oil. The bustle of the morning gradually melts into the sleepy calm of the midday siesta. The sun is high, so it’s time to retreat into the cool of Asmara’s ancient stone walls. And when the streets return to life again, step outside and let yourself be carried away by the slow pace of Italian living. Life here flows to the rhythm of church bells, clinking glasses, and neighbours’ laughter. Experience La Dolce Vita in southern Sicily how it’s meant to be.

Casa Asmara is a 17th-century house in the centre of Scicli, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Together with eight other towns, it forms part of the Val di Noto, a region famous for its late Baroque architecture. Scicli is the perfect starting point for exploring the southeastern part of Sicily. Plus, the coast is only a short drive away, making Asmara an ideal summer destination.

Our tips

Getting There

The closest airport is Catania, with direct flights from Prague. From there, you can reach Scicli in about 1.5 hours by car. Alternatively, take a direct bus in under two hours or, for a scenic route, hop on a train with breathtaking views and a stop in Syracuse, home to a fantastic local fish market.

Chiosco 'a funtana

A perfect spot for a breakfast un caffè con cornetto pistachio. Enjoy the one-of-a-kind atmosphere of outdoor seating in the shade of trees. Come back in the evening for a glass of natural wine.

Donnalucata and Sampieri

The two nearest seaside towns are just a 12-minute drive away. Sampieri is a picturesque fishing village with a gorgeous beach. Donnalucata is home to a wonderful antique shop and a fantastic gelateria.

La Bottiglieria Piatti & Vini

You have to meet Eumyr, the owner! His charisma and taste in (not just) Italian natural wines are unmatched. Plus, you’ll be sipping with a stunning view of Chiesa di San Matteo.

Sunset at Chiesa di San Matteo

You’ll be hard-pressed to find a more beautiful sunset overlooking the winding alleys and the sea. We recommend bringing a chilled bottle from Eumyr’s shop.

Life on the Street

You don’t need to go far to feel the magic of Sicily. Open the door to your narrow street and become part of the local rhythm. The charm will come to you—just wait a moment. You’ll see.
